Just so you don’t have any misunderstandings - I did not create this banner. I don’t know who did, but yes, it is partisan. I’m ok with that. There are many things about Hilary CLinton that I don’t like, but I in no way believe (or endorse the belief) that she is a demon. But the Neil Gaiman fangirl in me squee’d a bit when I saw this. I do not believe this banner reflects Sen Clinton’s political views, nor do I really think that anyone else believes that. I think we all know it to be what it is - a harmless joke, with very little substance. Much like when I posted the “Bush/Voldemort” sticker on my site 4 years ago. I really don’t think anyone involved is a fictional bad guy.
Were I an earthly creation I would, I think, sue Mr. Gaiman for defamation of character. He has made me look evil and ugly which is something I could just laugh at. But now, this! I cannot abide being compared with Hillary Clinton, for she is a corporatist womanservant, who has absolutely no vision, no cleverness, no love in her at all. She serves the same masters as the Shrubbery, as well as the same purpose.
Incidentally, Gaiman saw fit to cut off the end of our little infernal dialog, since it didn’t jibe with the way HE wanted it to look. In the Bowdlerized version, Morpheus had me stumped by saying “I am hope”. Hope? Puh-leeeze. “Hope” is just one partner in a two-man con game, the other being “Disappointment”.
It actually had gone like this: I had responded “I am Reality”…and Morpheus froze up and abdicated. I won the prize, escaped Hell, and am at this very moment heading for Mr. Gaiman’s sleeping mind to amuse myself…
In entirely non-fictional fashion, I thank you for your clarification. While of course the banner is a joke of the hyperbolic school, I have continued to observe, with interest, how hyperbole has, over the course of the past months, become as the fuel injected V12 engine for the race to secure the checkered flag of this year’s Democratic nomination.

I am unabashedly Pro-Bama. Sorry Chaz!

My sorrow has nothing to do with your support of Obama. It has more to do with your equally unabashed bashing of Clinton.

Ok, I am now freaked out about receiving comments from previously fictional constructs. Sheesh.

[…] Last week, getting ready to leave Buenos Aires, I saw this Obama ad that repurposes dialogue from Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. […]
