Aug 30/07/ Everyone knows I’m already good on the ground

New print up in my Etsy shop:
Lucky 13 print
Doing a series of smaller prints to see if they sell better. Check it out and buy one! Buy two - Bunny had to go to the vet today, and my wallet is hurting.

(Bunny is fine, btw - she has a virus, and is now on meds. Poor sick puppy just wants to sleep now…)

Aug 22/07/ Late season for fireflies

So - my SF trip got cancelled. Models dropped out, and it turned out to not be worth going out there if I wasn’t going to be shooting what I needed to. I am planning on going out again in Oct. Actually, I have a ton of travel planned in the next two months, as well as various social shenanigans. Going away in early September, then fancy artist Jill Allyn Stafford is coming out to visit at the end of the month, PLUS Henry Leo is due. Then in October, I go to LA for a wedding, then SF, then Getchell is coming to visit at the end of the month for my 3 year Soberversity… geez! For little miss anti-social, I sure have a lot going on! Plus, y’know, CARRIER.

I have decided to put more prints of my work up on Etsy - I’m going to put one up each week, and see how they do. This week, I’ve made a print from one of my favorites - the illustration I did for the cover of Stephen Elliott’s “My Girlfriend Comes to the City and Beats Me Up”:
Girlfriend print

Check it out! Buy a print!

Aug 15/07/ Just a quicky

I’m still alive, despite the heat. Dude, seriously - anything over 100 degrees is UTTER BULLSHIT. I say thumbs down.
Tomorrow, I work at the library, since my air conditioning has, uh… well, it sucks, frankly. It is practically non-existent, and I am MISERABLE. Bleah.

Dr. Sketchy’s went swimmingly:
Gilda

In motion

Miss Gilda Lily was a big hit.

Working on CARRIER, doing freelance. Pretty much same ol’ same ol’. OH! Imma be in SF/Oakland from the 22nd to the 27th, if anyone wants to hook up and say “hey”!

Aug 09/07/ OW! My shoulder, ow.

Page from CARRIER

Inks from page 7 of CARRIER, which is coming along, slowly but surely. Can you see why I am sick of drawing pigeons?

It’s ridiculous with the heat wave here. Over 100 every day this week. THIS IS BULLSHIT. Also, my shoulder hurts, and I am pretty sure the humidity is making it worse. BULLSHIT! Also also? My air conditioner sucks. I have to be sitting on top of it to feel cooler. I moved my drawing table into my office. BULLSHIT! THUMBS DOWN!

I am dog sitting for Tony and Kara, who are at WW Chicago. My house is full of dogs. I am planning to invite Ellis over for tea, just to be mean.

Conversations I Only Have in KCMO, #23:

At the Post Office. I have been waiting in line for 20 min. There is ONE clerk working. I get to the desk, give her my packages, and toss my Netflix disks in as well. There are still about 10 people in line behind me.

CLERK: Did you watch anything good?
ME: Well, I like to watch TV shows on DVD, so that’s what those are. (I am trying to avoid telling her that I was watching WEEDS, so she won’t have my packages searched.)
CLERK: You can get TV shows on DVD?
ME: Yeah - pretty much anything on TV eventually comes out on DVD. (How does she not know this? Does she ever LEAVE the Post Office?)
CLERK: Like, THE NANNY?
ME: …
CLERK: With Fran Drescher?
ME: … Uh, yeah, I guess.
CLERK: I really love THE NANNY. Everyone says I look like her. (She is a short, fat, Latino woman with frizzy dirty blonde hair. She does not, in fact, look anything like Fran Drescher.)
ME: Oh yeah, I can totally see that.
CLERK: It’s such a good show. Do you watch it?
ME: …Yeah, uh… in reruns. When I can catch it.
CLERK: You should get it on DVD!
ME: I totally will.
I escape, getting dirty looks from the 20 people still in line, who have had to listen to me chat with Crazy Postal Lady about THE NANNY.

Go Cubs!
GO CUBS!
Aug 05/07/ Violating sec.36DD

I feel like I have finally caught up. Freelance work sorted, prints mailed, posters posted, Gillen sent home, personal life turned upside-down, house cleaned, laundry done, photos posted. I feel like I have finally recovered.

Let’s see - Kelly Sue’s baby shower was lovely, and I still need to finish the baby kimonos. I have till Sept. 21st, right? Sheesh. I knit slow.

Gillen came to visit - before SDCC and after. We took him to a baseball game, which was the most American thing I could think of to do.
Royals vs Yankees

I did not take a single picture at SDCC. I don’t really know why. I felt very low-key the entire time, and maybe a little burned out. I mean, how many pictures of Slave Leia can I take? It’s hard, since I am there to:
A) see my friends
B) hustle work
C) have the closest thing to a vacation that I can manage.
I did get a chance to balance all three - new work is in the hopper (post-CARRIER, of course!), I saw my nearest and dearest, even if it wasn’t nearly enough of a visit. I danced, I went to the beach, I stayed up VERY VERY LATE… I had some awesome stuff happen that I am not gonna tell you guys about. I spent… maybe 1 day in total in the actual con? I bought some pens. They are excellent.
Saw Ellis for about 20 min - he fondled my new tattoo and told me I was a jackass in re:my personal life, but he still loves me. Saw Jamie Rich for like, 1/2 an hour… man, it was just too hard to see everyone! I was happy I stayed with Jill, because she was THE BEST ROOMIE EVAR, OMG. My panels went great, Jim was really pleased with his, which is what I wanted. I got slightly sunburned on my last day there, and it actually felt really good.

I came away with the same feelings I always come away with about comics… it sucks to be a girl in this industry, and nothing will ever change. I saw bad behavior passed off with a “well, he was drunk”, I saw petty jealousy that ended up with some girl-on-girl drama (sisters! unite! quit being bitches, yo!), and everyone I talked to about my concerns or issues was very lazy-fair. Why should we bother trying to change anything, when no one wants to put a finger on what exactly is wrong?

I want to do comics, but I still don’t know what that means. I don’t have Fraction’s passion for the form, or Kelly Sue’s concern for craft. I love drawing, and I love stories, but… well, I don’t know shit about the Avengers, y’know? (Altho, thanks to Gillen and Fraction, I am now obsessed with Dazzler. Bah.)

Anyways - post SDCC I had a small soirĂ©e for Gillen, and KC’s finest came out. I have been hella laying low since, recovering. Back into the swing of it now tho.

Grr
I am coming for your children!
Jul 15/07/ And while your head is spinning, hold tight, it’s just beginning

Naughty Needles Burlesque was a smashing success. Check out my pics to view the awesome. My screenprinted posters did not turn out as awesome, so I will not be selling those, but I put the full color prints up on Etsy. Check ‘em out! Buy ‘em! Support my habit (of eating and paying rent!)

In other news? Bunny threw up the other morning, and when I cleaned it up, there was a tiny robot arm in the puddle. Evidently? My dog fights tiny robots while I sleep. I have a spy pal who suggests that Bunny needs more training - “She needs to learn, however, that removing a limb isn’t fatal to the tiny robots, and that robot may be back for her. Put your man (or tiny robot) down, and put your man (or tiny robot) out.” So while Bunny may be mighty, she is not yet up to covert ops.

In other other news? I am so tired of drawing pigeons. Soon I will be drawing a mutant cabaret, and I am really looking forward to that, but right now? Lots and LOTS of pigeons. They have so many feathers. Ugh.

Ben Radatz’ Naughty Needles Poster

Originally uploaded by QueenieVonSugarpants.

Poster by the amazing Ben Radatz - prints of both his and my posters will be for sale at the show, and I’ll be putting mine up on Etsy this weekend.

I’m MC’ing the show (in a very sexy outfit, knitted by Miss Nikol), and it’s gonna be AWESOME - more boobies than you can shake a stick at.

Wow, that sounds dirty.
