SDCC 06 came and went, and… what a weird year it was for me. My first time with a major publisher, and really, I only worked 2 days. Dude, I spent Saturday? AT THE BEACH. When I told people at the show this, they looked at me like they wanted to kill me. Heh.
I saw practically nothing, and missed seeing people I normally see. It was, for the first time, TOO DAMN BIG. My feet hurt, it was too hot, too loud and… yeah. I was worn out. Never seemed to get enough sleep.
I am making it sound like I had a bad time - on the contrary, it was my favorite year ever. Weird, huh? But, yeah. I was just more… relaxed this year. Happy. Contented. My life has hella changed, yo.
Viz booth? ALWAYS CROWDED. I got to hang out with Matsuri Hino, the creator of Vampire Knight and MeruPuri - a lovely, lovely woman. And very well dressed. Also, very private - no photos of her were allowed. Something that suprised me was people’s reaction to that - I would tell them, smiling, polite - no photos please! - and some of them got indignant. Like, it was their right to do what ever they pleased. Very strange.
Also? My Assistant Managing Editor Grant Lowery? Is freaking awesome. As is Marc, who is me for Shonen Jump. Dudes, I really LOVE my new job.

Wed Preview night was the biggest I’d ever seen. CRAZY big.
24 Seven is the best book of the show. Ivan Brandon is a freaking genius.
Zadie Jones is so cute she makes my teeth ache.

Jamie Rich makes me happier and happier every time I get to hang out with him - I think he befuddles Serpico, however. That is the purpose of Jamie Rich - befuddler of all the boys.
Me and Kitten have a thing going on. I’ll tell you about it soon.
Gillen is a charmer.
Lee Loughridge poured beer on Rick Remender. Then there was a beer fight. Ah, San Diego.
Rick Alexander is a lovely, LOVELY man who I did not get to spend nearly enough time with, dammit. But my fella likes him too.
That was kind of the theme of my show - not enough time. Did not get to spend ANY time with Dan or Han, and I feel like weeping about that - they are two of my favorite people, and it was like.. yeah, not enough time. Not nearly enough.
Jilly Stafford is hottie mc awesome. Francesca VonDoom is hot Italian TROUBLE.
Oh! I did get to hang out with many Drew’s - Gill and Mayer. That was v. nice.
I literally ran into Jeff Parker on the street - I have to go all the way to Portland to have an actual conversation with him, dammit.
It was all too much, and over too soon, and I few from SD to SF, got off the train and went into work, totally worn out. And yes, I fell asleep in a meeting. Yeesh.
